DUNDAS—Dundas Real McCoys came home to regroup, and regroup they did as they downed the Whitby Dunlops 9-4 in Allan Cup Hockey action tonight in the JL Grightmire Arena.
Brad Bonello paced Dundas with a five-point night on three goals and two assists.
In other action, Brantford Blast defeated the Hamilton Steelhawks 8-4 in the Dave Andreychuk Mountain Arena.
Phil Brewer (19) rips the Real McCoys fourth goal of the game past a sprawling Matt Cammellari in the Whitby Dunlops net. Dundas defeated Whitby 9-4 at home.
The next action for Dundas is next Friday night (December 20th) when the Steelhawks play the McCoys in Dundas at 7:30 p.m.
That night will be the McCoys annual “Pink in the Rink” Teddy Bear Toss Night. Fans are encouraged to bring a stuffed toy, and make a “Food Share” donation in the barrels in the arena lobby. The barrels will remain in place until Christmas.
Tonight’s victory enabled the McCoys to keep pace with the top two clubs. The second place Blast narrowed the gap on Hamilton to three points. Whitby with loss falls to 2-6 on the season.
In addition to Bonello, the McCoys got three-point efforts from Mackenzie Wood (two goals and one assist), Phil Brewer (two goals and one assist) and Cam Watson (one goal and two assists). Dan LaPointe added a goal and an assist, while Simon Mangos set up two scoring plays.
Goalkeeper Mike Mole not only earned the victory, he also set up the third goal of the game by Bonello.
For Whitby, Darren Doherty, William Jones, Brett McConnachie, and Adam Vacado got single goals. Tyler Melancon set up two of the Dollops goals.
