PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Philadelphia Flyers got a jump on the rest of the NHL and, as usual made a trade at the draft with more potential trades to come. For now the Flyers have send backup goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky to the Columbus Blue Jackets for the 45th and 117th picks in this year’s draft, as well as 4th round pick next season that previously was held by the Phoenix Coyotes. The move gives Columbus a potential number one goaltender and helps gives the Flyers two more picks in this year’s draft. The Flyers only had five going into the draft but they were without a second round pick. The Flyers can work the draft better by moving into the middle part of the second round along with having the 20th overall pick in the first round. Rumors are swirling that the Flyers will not be pursuing defenseman Shea Weber before July 1st which is when he can become an RFA. There are also some people flashing rumors of a potential deal for the Anaheim Ducks Bobby Ryan who the Flyers have coveted for years but have never been able to pursue until recently when rumors began that Ryan is now on the trade market. You can bet if the rumors are true that the Flyers want to get their hands on Ryan that they will also make a push for the Ducks 1st round pick, 6th overall, to get their hands on a “NHL ready defenseman” as well.
