Bobrovsky shuts out Isles in 5-0 Columbus win

It was no contest in Columbus Friday night when Sergei Bobrovsky picked up a shutout ion a 5-0 win over the New York Islanders.

“He wasn’t too busy but he made some key saves at key times,” Columbus coach John Tortorella said.

Bobrovsky made 29 saves for the win, his 20th career shutout.

“It was an unbelievable atmosphere in the building,” Bobrovsky said. “It’s great to win this way in front of our fans. I felt pretty good. It’s just one game. It’s a long season. The process is still going on. This is just the beginning.”

Two rookies, Sonny Milano and Pierre-Luc Dubois, each struck for their career NHL goals in the win.

Cam Atkinson, Ryan Murray and Zach Werenskialso had goals in the win.

It was a come down for the Isles after a strong preseason but the opener was less than thrilling.

“The regular season is a different level,” New York captain John Tavares said. “Starting with myself, none of us were good enough tonight.”

Thomas Greiss got the start for the Islanders but was pulled after making 21 saves; he was replaced by Jaroslav Halak.

“They got the first two and we got away from our game and doing what we do well, grinding teams out and trying to make too many plays to get back into the game, and obviously that created too many odd-man rushes for them,”Greiss said after the game.
