Bobrovsky shuts down Vegas, 1-0

In Columbus, Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves to help the Blue Jackets shut out the visiting Vegas Golden Knights, 1-0.

The only goal of the game came at the 40-second mark of the third period when Nick Foligno scored.

“I had a way better chance earlier in the shift,” Foligno said. “[Subban] made a heck of a save. I was really happy to get a second opportunity. [Jones] made a heck of a play to put it on net and I was able to bang it home.”

It was the first time this season the Knights had been shut out.

“We didn’t play well the first two periods, but we started to play well when we got behind 1-0,” Vegas coach Gerard Gallant said. “We had some good chances and Bobrovsky made some big saves late.”

The Jackets improved to 18-12-3.

“It’s good to get a result where most of the game I thought we played really well,” Columbus coach John Tortorella said.

A late push by the Knights in the third period was defused by Bobrovsky on several big saves.

“It got a little scary there the second half of the third period,” Tortorella said. “That’s where I thought [Bobrovsky] was outstanding. He made some big saves where the first two period he barely had to work.”

Malcolm Subban made 30 saves in the hard luck loss.

It was his first start since mid November.

“[Subban] did a real good. Good for him,” Gallant said. “It’s too bad we didn’t get any points out of here.”
