In Columbus Wednesday night, the Blue Jackets’ Sergei Bobrovsky was oh so close to a shut out of the Buffalo Sabres but lost the bid with less than three minutes left in regulation; he made 34 saves in a 5-1 win.
Seth Griffith of the Sabres broke the bid.
The Jackets broke the game open with a quick succession of goals from Oliver Bjorkstrand, Seth Jones, Matt Calvert, and Nick Foligno in a span of 2:59.
“It’s the momentum. Guys are feeling it,” Foligno said. “When they see other lines do it everyone wants to jump in. You saw it tonight. Every line scored.”
The loss dropped the Sabres to a record of 3-6-2 after having won two straight.
Josh Andersonclosed out the scoring late in the third to make the final 5-1.
“It was good to score two or three goals in a row to settle things down,” Bobrovsky said.
The game turned early on a Bobrovsky save on a breakaway by Ryan O’Reilly.
“How do we react to that? We understand it’s a big turning point. It could be a tied game right there, but how to you react from that point moving forward, the mental toughness of that. We just lost a little bit of discipline in our game.” — Sabres coach Phil Housley said of the missed opportunity.

Chad Johnson, took the loss on saves.
“It was a slop fest. If [Bobrovsky] didn’t play the way he played in the first period it could have been reversed a little bit,” Jackets head coach John Tortorella said after the game.
