Blues terminate Murray

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI – BREAKING NEWS – The St. Louis Blues have fired head coach Andy Murray after a 17-17-6 beginning.  While St. Louis has shown plenty of ability, it seems that the players were not responding well to Murray.  The decision does not come as a shocker as rumors had been circulating for some time now.  However, the St. Louis front office had said that they wanted to make a move for an offensive player prior to terminating Murray’s employment.  It appears that time did not come soon enough for Murray.
St. Louis most recently played Thursday evening collecting a 4-3 overtime loss to the Canucks at home.  The Blues have had trouble at home evidenced in a record of 6-13-3.  The woes for the Blues have not only been on home ice this season.  Currently the Blues are the lowest scoring team in the Western Conference and have struggled to provide any offense what so ever this season.
With the termination of Murray, St. Louis has named Davis Payne interim head coach.  Payne is quite experienced in the Blues system spending the last two seasons behind the bench of the Peoria Rivermen and previously spent four years with the Blues ECHL affiliate the Alaska Aces where he was named coach of the year in 2006.
Payne is a native of Kamloops, British Columbia and a graduate of Michigan Tech University.  He is 39 years of age and will become the 23rd head coach of the St. Louis Blues.  This will be his first NHL assignment as a head coach.
