Vladimir Tarasenko scored two goals to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-2 win over Chicago on Tuesday night. The win puts the Blues one victory away from clinching the series.
After Tarasenko scored the lone goal of the first period, Game 4 looked similar to Game 3. The Blackhawks go on the board when Andrew Shaw found the net at 9:12 of the second period.
The snarl factor, something missing from the previous games, rose quickly. Corey Crawford took exception to Robbi Fabbri interfering with him and left his crease to starting a shoving match in the corner. After the penalty boxes filled with five players total, Chicago worked on the power play.
Duncan Keith scored his second goal of the series, giving the Blackhawks their first lead of the game at 13:09. Revenge struck four minutes later as Tarasenko scored his second goal of the game, this one on the power play.
For the second straight game, the defending champions squandered a one-goal lead on home ice. With their back against the wall, Chicago came out in the third period flat.
Another bad penalty taken by the home team ended up in their net. Jaden Schwartz found a rebound and stuffed it home giving the Blues the lead for good. Alexander Steen scored the eventual game winner after two Chicago defensemen turned the puck over in the neutral zone.
The shots on goal totals were lopsided again in Chicago’s favor. Blues goalie Brian Elliott faced 42 shots, most from low trouble areas.
Keith gave the home crowd hope when his shot deflected off Tarasenko’s stick, fluttered into the air over Elliott and into the net at 14:40 of the third period. Hope ended with about two minutes to go when Andrew Shaw was sent to the sin bin for interference.
Frustration was high for Chicago after the final horn went off and tempers flared. All 11 skaters that finished the game on the ice were given game misconduct penalties.
The Blues will look to end the series on home ice Thursday night.
