Blues struggle to shutout victory amidst two losses

ST LOUIS, Missouri – This week brought on a new chapter for the St. Louis Blues; two losses and no overtime games.  While St. Louis would struggle to start and finish the week, all was not lost.  The Blues highlight was Wednesday evening in Detroit where Ty Conklin would shutout his former team for the 1-0 victory.
Chris Stewart sunk the Blues to open the week Monday evening by scoring twice and assisting Paul Stastny for his third point of the evening.  Wojtek Wolski logged three points assisting three different Avs on the evening.  Peter Budaj may have been the brightest point for Colorado though as he would stop all 35 shots faced for his first shutout of this season.
After a poor showing against Colorado, the Blues took to the road to play the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday evening.  The Red Wings have struggled as of late only winning three of their last nine.  Ty Conklin though would look to put an end to that.  Despite Detroit’s heroic efforts, Conklin was not to be out done.  The Wings fired 42 shots on him, and he returned their fire by recording his second shutout of the season.  Conklin previously played with Detroit last season.  Brad Boyes scored the game winner at 1:56 of the first period as St. Louis would hold Detroit in place for the remainder of the game.
Dustin Penner would lead Edmonton past the Blues on Friday evening recording four points.  Penner scored his lone goal of the evening at 17:03 in the third period after assisting Gilbert Brule twice and Sam Gagner once.  David Backes would also score twice in the losing effort for the Blues and Erik Johnson would record two assists. Quote of the Week: From Barrett Jackman in the Post-Dispatch:
“When you were growing up, your parents always gave you a little smack on the side of the head when you were misbehaving,” said Jackman, an assistant captain. “Maybe we need to bring in the old-school approach to get guys going.”
