Blues rally to down Flames in OT, 4-3

In St Louis, the Blues scored twice in the third period on markers from Nikita] Alexandov and Jordan Kyrou  to rally back from a 1-3 deficit on Tuesday to the Calgary Flames.

The pair of goals forced an extra session.

Robert Thomas made quick work of the extra time when he scoed 28 seconds in for a 4-3 win for the Blues.

“We kind of looked at each other going up the ice, and I had a pretty good idea what [Kyrou] was planning on doing,” Thomas said. “Great play by him, and I just had to get it up off the ice.”

Jordan Binnington made 28 saves in the Blues win.

“I didn’t feel we had our legs,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “We didn’t push hard enough. Going into the game after the long road trip back home, a little bit worried. But guys responded in the third period. I thought we played a way better period. I thought that the [Tyler] Pitlick, [Alexey Toropchenko], [Nikita] Alexandov [line], I put [Noel] Acciari there later, but those guys really provided a lot of energy for us tonight.”

St Louis improved to 21-18-3.

Pavel Buchnevich also scored for the Blues, his power play goal staked the Blues to a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The Flames replied with two goals in the first with Milan Lucic and Mikael Backlund giving Calgary a 2-1 lead.

Calgary dropped to 19-14-9.

“It obviously [stinks]. That’s not the way we want to end the game,” Calgary forward Nazem Kadri said. “To be quite honest, I think we played a pretty solid road game. Had a lapse of five minutes [but] the good players don’t need many chances to score, and they made us pay.”

With 62 seconds gone in the middle frame, Andrew Mangiapane put the Flames up, 3-1.

“I think we sat back in the third there and they kind of came in all waves at us,” Mangiapane said. “So we didn’t really do much in the third there. I felt like we just sat back.”

Jacob Markstrom made 23 saves  in the Flames loss.
