In Los Angeles, the Kings had their chances, but in the end the St Louis Blues rallied for a 3-2 win on Friday night.
Mike Hoffman scored the game-winner with 90 seconds gone in overtime to get the Blues the win.
“It was huge to tie the game late,” Hoffman said. “Give everyone and our team a huge lift and it translated into overtime.”
Ville Husso made 28 saves for the win.
Dustin Brown and Jeff Carter were the LA strikers.
“I think it’s a good lesson for us as a group,” Brown said. “Maybe [during the] six-game winning streak, we squeaked out a couple games where bounces went our way. It’s a good lesson to learn, you’re going to have to play a full 60 to get out of this little skid we’re in. A lot of good things we can take from this game, but it is a frustrating loss.”
The Blues needed a second goal from David Peron with under a minutes left in regulation to force the extra session.
“Just finding ways to win games,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “I think we have played some good hockey. It’s not great. We don’t panic, stay calm and come around to get a goal. It’s really a team goal and contributing to help out.”
Calvin Petersen made 19 saves in the loss.
“Fifty-eight and a half minutes were pretty darn good,” Los Angeles head coach Todd McLellan said. “There’s still mistakes, but we couldn’t be happier with that part of the game.”
