Blues rally past Ducks with two late goals

The Anaheim Ducks need to be reminded that that the game is 60 minutes long, not 58 minutes.

The Ducks were nursing a 4-3 lead late in the third when the St Louis Blues’ Alex Pietrangelo and Robert Thomas scored 12 seconds apart to wrest control of the game with less than two minutes left in regulation for a 5-4 win in Anaheim.

“That was a big character win for us. You could tell by how excited we were on the bench,” Thomas said. “Good teams find a way to win when it’s not their best night.”

Thomas had two goals in the game and Ryan O’Reilly and Brayden Schenn added single strikes for the win.

“I thought we stayed with it,” Blues head coach Craig Berube said. “We had a good first period, I thought, and let them back in the game in the second period. They got that goal in the third, but we were positive on the bench, guys were good and stayed with it. We ended up fortunately getting the winner.”

Jordan Binnington made 23 saves for the win as the Blues moved three points clear for the third in the central Division.

Jaycob Megna, (first NHL goal) Nick Ritchie, Rickard Rakell, and Adam Henrique scored for Anaheim.

“Couple lucky bounces, really,” Ducks assistant coach Marty Wilford said.

John Gibson made 28 saves in the loss.

“(The Ducks) played extremely hard and had a chance to win playing a team sitting here waiting for us. We threw everything at them, just some unlucky bounces that were out of our control,” Wilford said.
