After a string of weeks of poor play across the bench, the St Louis Blues extended their current win streak to six games with a 3-2 win Tuesday night over the San Jose Sharks in overtime.
Vladimir Tarasenko potted the game-winner, his second goal of the game, midway through the extra session.
“We just know we need the points,” the Blues’ Brayden Schenn said. “We’re getting good saves at key times, guys are playing defense, guys are stepping up, and then when we get the puck, we’re going on the attack because we know we need the extra point.”
The win pushed the Blues into a wild card spot in the Western Conference.
The loss snapped an eight-game streak for the Sharks.
“I think it’s our fifth game in eight nights tonight, so I was real proud of our group,” San Jose coach Peter DeBoer said. “A short bench, [forward Barclay] Goodrow went down a minute in, so I think he played for a minute. So we had a lot of factors going. I thought the guys dug deep and found a way to get a valuable point.”
Joe Pavelski and Evander Kane scored for the Sharks in regulation.

“He’s (Tarasenko ) a good player. I thought he was going to go short side but he went far side and just made a good shot,” Dell said after the game-winning goal in OT.
