Blues Hope New Leadership Means Fresh Start New leadership is hoped to be a driver for better season

ST. LOUIS – On Thursday morning, Blues General Manager Doug Armstrong and Head Coach Craig Berube presented the “C” to Blues forward Braden Schenn, naming him the 245th captain in franchise history.

Citing captains from years past such as the Plager brothers, Bernie Federko, Brett Hull, and others as well as the two most recent with whom he played, Alex Pietrangelo and Ryan O’Reilly, Schenn called the move an honor. The new captain went on to state that while they planned to look at a few things from last year, the intention is to put much of it “in the rearview mirror”.

When asked if, other than media interaction and puck drops, his game would have to change with this new role, Schenn replied that the good thing was it would not have to, perhaps a nod to the strength of leadership which led to this naming, the respect he has earned in the locker room, or even thew depth of experience among other leaders -behind the Blue Note.

Signed through the 2026-27 season, Schenn has scored 240 career goals during his stints with the LA Kings, Flyers, and now the Blues. After being traded to the Blues from Philadelphia in 2017, a move Schenn called “the best thing” to happen to his career, the Saskatoon native endeared himself to Blues fans with heavy play and goal-scoring ability.

Berube praised Schenn as a player who did it all, and Schenn admitted to being appreciative of those players who showed up for the announcement.

Assistant captains were also named. Colton Parayko will retain his “A” while Justin Faulk and Robert Thomas will round oud the leadership squad for the commencement of the 2023-24 campaign.
