In St Louis, the Blues scored three times in the second periods to take a 3-1 lead over the Nashville Predators on Thursday night, en route to a 5-2 win.
Brayden Schenn and Brandon Saad bookended a goal from Nashville’s Colton Sissons for a 2-1 lead in the middle frame.
Jordan Kyrou scored off the power play for a 3-1 lead to the Blues headed to the third period.
“Right now, every game is a playoff game for us,” Kyrou said. “We went in there with that mindset and played our game.”
Jordan Binnington made 24 saves in the Blues win.
“A good start, obviously,” Blues coach Craig Berube said. “A nice play off the face-off with ‘Schenner’s’ goal and then [we] followed it up. We stayed aggressive in the second period. I thought that put us in a good spot for the third.”
Nashville dropped to 21-18-6.
“First period was OK,” Predators coach John Hynes said. “They were a lot better the last 40 [minutes]. … I’m looking for a lot better showing than we had tonight.”
St. Louis improved to 23-20-3.
Robert Thomas pushed the Blues advantage to 4-1 at 1:03 of the third period.
“We know they’re going to come out with everything they’ve got,” Thomas said. “We got two quick goals in the first [two] minutes … good start for us, and that’s what you need to do at the start of the third period, especially against a dangerous team like them.”
Alexey Toropchenko potted a goal for the Blues just 58 seconds later for a 5-1 lead.
Nashville scored with just over two minutes left in the game on a strike from Mattias Ekholm for the 5-2 final.
Juuse Saros made 28 saves in the loss.
