Blues Fall to Sharks

ST LOUIS , Mo – On Saturday night, the San Jose Sharks defeated the St Louis Blues at the Scottrade Center 3-1, extending their unbeaten streak to eleven games.
 
Late in the first period, Blues’ Jay McClement scored a backhanded goal, assisted by Brad Winchester, to put the Blues up 1-0.

The Sharks took over in the second period, at 8:23, on a power-play goal by Dany Heatley, followed sixteen seconds later by a tip-in from Jed Ortmeyer, to put the sharks up 2-1 at the end of the period.
 
In the third period, the Blues continued to work the puck towards the net, but all attempts at scoring were debunked by Evgeni Nabokov.
 
Following a penalty by the Blues of too many men on the ice late in the period, Mason as pulled to allow even number of skaters. Shark’s Joe Thornton found the empty net on a feed from Dan Boyle with less than a minute left in regulation helping the Sharks to win 3-1.

The Blues outshot the Sharks 39-17 by the end of the game, but Nabokov’s defense was too much for them.
 
Prior to the game, the Blue’s honored team president John Davidson for his award of the Foster Hewitt Award.   The Award was presented to him by the NHL Hall of Fame, and is presented for excellence behind the microphone.   Davidson gave a brief speech to the fans, and was accompanied on the ice by his family.   Throughout the duration of the game, there were short clips of congratulations from various people, including former teammate Dave Maloney, MSG Broadcaster NBC Today Matt Lauer and play-by-play announcer for Hockey Night in Canada, Bob Cole.
