Blues extend Ducks’ woes in 5-1 win

In Anaheim, it just uglier by the day and by the game.

On Wednesday, the Ducks’ Daniel Sprong scored in the first period and then Ducks fell silent as the visiting St Louis Blues scored five unanswered goals in a 5-1 road win.

For the Ducks, it was their seventh straight home loss.

“The bottom line is, we had a team come in here and outwork our hockey club tonight,” Ducks Head coach Randy Carlyle said. “We’re not going to accept that.”

Zach Sanford, Vladimir Tarasenko, Oskar Sundqvist, Tyler Bozak and Sammy Blais scored for the Blues who improved to 22-22-5.

“We just seemed like we were slower than they were, and they had more jump and more energy, and they owned the puck,” Carlyle said. “We didn’t have the puck and we hung our goaltender out to dry.”

Jordan Binnington made 12 saves, yes, 12, in the win.

“When we’re on our toes like that and we’re shooting pucks and attacking and winning puck races, I know we’re ready to go,” Blues head coach Craig Berube

John Gibson made 26 saves in the loss.

“There are just certain things that we’re just not executing. Just being sloppy or a little too slow with our plays, with the puck and without the puck, allowing teams too much time, so it’s something that after the break, we’ve got to come back and get those things sorted out,” Anaheim’s Derek Grant said after the game.
