In St Louis, the Blues rallied back from an early two-goal deficit to top the New York Islanders, 3-2, in extra time on Thursday night.
Colton Parayko potted the winner with 97 seconds left in the extra session for the Blues’ win.
“I don’t really get that close to the net all the time,” Parayko said. “I saw the opportunity, I guess, and just tried to wrap it.”
Jordan Binnington made 15 saves for the win.
“We’ll take the point. … It’s disappointing we didn’t get two, but we got one and every point is going to matter here,” Islanders coach Barry Trotz said. “We’ll see at the end of the whole process if this is the one that got away or if this is the one that got us in.”
The Islanders took the lad on goals from Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Jordan Eberle.
“I think we got on our heels a bit,” Eberle said. “We lost some battles, and they’re a good team. I guess you can say you got a point, but this late in the season, you want to try and get two. You take the one, but some things to correct, obviously.”
Brayden Schenn scored for St Louis and Vince Dunn tied the game with less than two minutes on the regulation clock.
“At first, we tested [Binnington] a ton. We had a ton of chances,” Eberle said. “I think it all just factors into playing on your heels a bit and waiting for them to do something.”
