In Montreal Tuesday, the visiting St Louis Blues used a hat trick by Brayden Schenn to cool off the Canadiens in a 4-3 win.
Schenn completed the hat trick on a deflection off a Habs’ defenseman.
“I just saw it go in and put my arms up in the air and asked (Blues forward Jaden Schwartz) in the huddle if it was his or not,” Schenn said. “And he said he didn’t know if it went off [Canadiens defenseman Shea] Weber or [Schlemko’s] skate, but I’ll definitely take those lucky goals.”
Jake Allen picked up the win on 22 saves.
“I think things haven’t really bounced our way lately, but I really do believe when you approach the game the way that we did, I felt that we earned the confidence in the game to know that we still deserved to win the hockey game,” Blues head coach Mike Yeo said. “And we could have certainly put our heads down and felt sorry for ourselves, but our guys didn’t do that. We got right back on the attack and got aggressive in our game.”
Allen left the game in the middle frame with a broken skate blade; he was relieved by Carter Hutton who did not face a shot in the several minutes in net.
“I tried to get up and I fell, I had no blade left,” Allen said. “Both bolts broke out of my blade. They didn’t have the equipment on the bench.”
Shea Weber scored twice for the Canadiens and Jordie Benn added a single marker in the loss.

Carey Price made 26 saves in taking the loss as the Habs dropped to 13-13-3.
Schenn and Scottie Upshall scored seven seconds apart in the second period; it was the 10th time this season the Habs have yielded two goals in less than a minute span.
“They took it to us for a majority of that period,” Weber said. “But I thought we had a couple of shifts there, especially near the end, we scored and we got life, and then we had a couple of shifts where we were physical on the forecheck and got their [defensemen] to turn some pucks over, and I thought that gave us momentum going into the third.”
