Blues edge Sharks on Kyrou goal

In a back and forth game in St Louis, the Blues got the last word when Jordan Kyrou scored the game-winning goal midway through the third period to give the Blues a 5-4 win over the San Jose Sharks.

“This game was a winnable game for us,” Sharks coach Bob Boughner said. “We scored four on the road, we won the special teams and that should be a recipe for at least a point. I can think of three, off the top of my head, goals that came off our sticks. Just high percentage, really unsmart hockey plays, and they go down and score and that hurts. St. Louis is a good team. You can’t give them anything.”

Jordan Binnington made 22 saves in the win.

“[Parayko] made a good drop for me and I cut to the middle and tried to use the D as a screen there and it worked out,” Kyrou said. “I was just happy in the moment and did my thing.”

Justin Faulk struck for two goals in the wild second period when the Blues had four goals.

“I don’t think anyone’s going to complain about that or get any bad vibes from scoring a couple goals early,” Faulk said. “Just getting it out of the way and kind of hoping to build it up.”

Brent Burns and Kevin Labanc scored single markers for the Sharks while Logan Couture put home a pair in the loss.

“I liked our response in the third,” Couture said. “We came out with some energy.”

Mike Hoffman scored his first goal with the Blues.

“It always feels good to get the first one out of the way, especially coming back here for our first game at home,” Hoffman said. “Obviously, the fans aren’t with us, but I thought it was a good team win and I’m glad that I was able to contribute to it.”Brayden Schenn also scored for St Louis.

Devan Dubnyk made 28 saves in the loss.

“It was good to get that first period out of the way and obviously not the second we’d like,” Dubnyk said. “But we were right there. We got a big goal to start the third. It was pretty unfortunate.”
