Blues drop Columbus, 6-3

In St Louis, the Blues Pavel Buchnevich hit for two goals in a 6-3 win over the visiting Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday.

“We’ve been having a tough time the last couple games, we didn’t play great,” the Blues’ Ivan Barbashev said. “I think it was time to turn around things and play simple, hard, and that’s what we did in the second, and it looks like the game turned around, and it was good to win the game.”

Ville Husso made 24 saves in the St Louis win.

The Blues improved to 11-7-3.

Boone Jenner gave the Blue Jackets a 1-0 lead in the first period.

The Blues finally got on the board early in the middle frame with two quick goals, 58 seconds apart.

Buchnevich and Barbashev (two goals on the night) scored to give the Blues the 2-1 lead.

“I think it was huge for us to get those two quick goals, especially in the first five minutes,” Barbashev said. “That’s what we’ve been told, to have a really good start in the second period. And yeah, it looks like since then we did turn the game around.”

The Blue Jackets dropped to 12-7-0.

“I feel like the more we play in the line, the more he (Buchnevich) plays for the Blues, he will find out the way we play hockey,” Tarasenko said. “It’s a little bit different. And he’s doing really well, it’s nice to play with him.

“And Robert, I think we start to understand each other better on the ice. It’s always easy to play when you know what the guy next to you will do in the next second, so you don’t need to think about it.”

Adam Boqvist scored twice for Columbus.

“I liked the first, and for about 14 minutes there [in the second] we couldn’t stop anything, we couldn’t gather ourselves, and the last six [minutes] we were fine, kind of caught ourselves,” Blue Jackets head coach Brad Larsen said. “In the third, we were fine and then a couple mistakes and that’s it.

“Good teams do that. They’re a good hockey team, a big, heavy team. They got rolling there and we didn’t have an answer for them.”

Jordan Kyrou and Justin Faulk added single markers for St Louis.

Joonas Korpisalo made 27 saves in the Columbus loss.
