Blues down Ducks in OT, 2-1

St Louis had not won in Anaheim for nine straight until Patrik Berglund scored in overtime Sunday night to give the Blues a 2-1 win over the Ducks.

Jaden Schwartz started the game-winning play on a rush up ice into the attacking zone before finding Berglund.

“I think [Schwartz] made a great decision to leave the zone and regroup and get some speed going,” Berglund said. “Great play by him. I just kind of went straight towards the net.”

Backup goalie Carter Hutton made 23 saves for the Blues second win in as many nights.

“I felt good,” Hutton said. “Since after Christmas, I’ve been seeing the puck well. I’ve been working on battling and competing to find pucks while staying on my feet as long as possible. I work hard when I’m not playing. I visualize pucks and work on my tracking.”

Rickard Rakell scored the lone Ducks goal.

“We had a lot of chances tonight, and it would’ve been nice to score a few more goals,” Rakell said. “Going forward, we can take this with us. Just stay confident. We created chances. I thought we played a pretty good game. We can’t get too down.”

Anaheim is 1-8 in overtime.

Berglund opened the scoring in the game in the second period.

“I didn’t think we were as effective as we should’ve been in the second period,” Ducks coach Randy Carlyle said. “We let them dictate the play. They got a goal off a faceoff play, which is always a burr in a coach’s side. We responded in the third period. We had a good effort. We’ve had a great little run and we’re still getting points. That’s the most important thing.”

John Gibson took the loss on 23 saves.

Anaheim has taken points in 11 of their 12 matches.

“We’ve played a lot of hockey and we’re going to continue playing a lot of hockey for the next few weeks. It’s a grind. The objective is to get points every night. We’d like two, but it’s nice to get one,” Kevin Bieksa said of the Ducks schedule.
