The St Louis Blues were disappointed after their Game 4 loss on home ice to the Dallas Stars in overtime.
So they made up for that on Saturday afternoon with a solid 4-1 win over the Stars in Dallas.
“We’ve worked hard all series, even in the series before this, to try and give ourselves as many opportunities to clinch as we can,” Troy Brouwer said. “The last time, it took us a couple more games than we would have liked. We’ve learned a lot from those situations, and I think especially going home here for Game 6, it’s going to be a real important game for us to try to close this out as soon as possible.”
Brower, Robby Fabbri, Paul Stastny, and Dmitrij Jaskin scored for the Blues.
The win gives the Blues a 3-2 series heading home for Game 6.
“We’ve been a real good team when we’ve been backed into the corner,” Stars coach Lindy Ruff said. “Let’s just focus on the next game and realize that we won the last game in that building. We’re prepared to go up there and win a game.”
Brian Elliott made 27 saves for the win and kept the Stars at bay in the third when the Blues were on their heels for stretches in the game.
Elliot came up big early in the third period when Dallas came out fast to try and get a goal; he stopped Cody Eakin with two sensational stops.
“You try to get over and get big, seal the ice and take care of any garbage left out in the front,” Elliott said. “It was kind of a bang-bang play, [I] didn’t have much room. [I] just tried to be big.”
Those were two of the 12 stops he made in the third period. Dallas outshot the Blues 12-3 in the final twenty minutes of play.
“I think we need a full 60-minute effort on Monday night, and that’s what we’re going to do to win that game,” Stars captain Jamie Benn said.
Game 6 is in St. Louis on Monday (8 p.m. ET; NBCSN, CBC, TVA Sports 2).
