In Columbus, Two power-play goals from Patrik Laine and two goals from Oliver Bjorkstrand, including a power-play strike were not enough to get the Blue Jackets a win, but just enough to get them a point in a 6-5 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks after the skills competition on Tuesday night.
“We have a lot of work to do, but at least we can point to some things that we took some steps in the right direction and continue to try to get better,” Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said.
Kevin Lankinen made 25 saves to get the Win for the Blackhawks.
“Everyone wants to win, but one point’s better than none,” the Blue Jackets’ Cam Atkinson said. “We’ll look at the good things and work on it.”
Atkinson had a single marker for Columbus.
Columbus pushed the play into the Chicago zone in the extra session, but Lankinen kept the Blue Jackets at bay.
“Without his saves at the end in overtime, we don’t get to the shootout,” Chicago head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “He allowed us to stay alive long enough to come through and make the last play. I’m sure he wants to be better, but the fact is, he made the saves we needed.”
After Laine tied the game at 3-3, Dominik Kubalik and Adam Boqvist put Chicago up 5-3.Patrick Kane scored his 398th NHL goal for Chicago.
“You’re up 5-3 you want to finish off the game,” Kane said. “They just kept coming, had some chances and ended up tying it up. Nice to get two points but would’ve been nice to give them nothing.”
Carl Soderberg and Brandon Hagel also scored for the Hawks.
Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves in the loss.
