In Columbus, the Blue Jackets downed the Philadelphia Flyers, 5-4, on Tuesday in extra time.
Vladislav Gavrikov hit for the winner at 3:14 of the extra session to give the Bue Jackets the victory, their second in a week over the Flyers.
“It was 3-on-1 and [I] was ready,” Gavrikov said. “I didn’t know what exactly [Chinakhov] is going to do, but I had only one option. If I will get the puck, I have to shoot.”
Elvis Merzlikins made 17 saves into the second period, he left the ice with an apparent injury.
Joonas Korpisalo, who made 18 saves in relief.
“You get five of six points here in three games, it’s a good stretch with the amount of injuries that have piled up,” Columbus coach Brad Larsen said. “We lost ourselves a bit in the second period there, especially the last 10-12 minutes, but we got ourselves together.”
Boone Jenner hit for a double for the Blue Jackets.
Philadelphia dropped to 7-6-3, and have lost four straight.
“We score four tonight and we still lose,” Flyers coach John Tortorella said. “The first period we didn’t play well, but we were better in the second.”
Columbus took a 2-0 lead on goals from Sean Kuraly and Jenner’s first.
The Flyers tied it off strikes from Kevin Hayes and Noah Cates.
“We’ve been battling back pretty much all year,” Hayes said. “You don’t want to go down two goals. but’s nice to know there’s no quit in this room. We all believe together that we can get a goal.”
Columbus replied to the rally with goals from Eric Robinson and Jenner for a 4-2 lead.
“These comebacks and these points we can use, but if we’re playing with the lead, playing confident, playing simple like we do when we’re on our good stretches, and be a little more consistent, we’ll be really tough to play against,” Cates said.
Nick Seeler and Travis Konecny (power play) rallied the Flyers gain for a 4-4 tie forcing the extra session.
“I thought our power play was better tonight,” Tortorella said. “Scored a goal to get us a point. As we’ve talked throughout the year, it’s helped us get some points, getting at least one power-play goal a game.”
Carter Hart made 28 saves in the Flyers loss.
