Blue Jackets double-up Leafs, 4-2

The Columbus Blue Jackets jumped on the Toronto Maple Leafs early and then cruised to a 4-2 win Wednesday night.

Joonas Korpisalo was busy in the Jackets’ net and made 39 saves to get the win.

“It gets you going,” Korpisalo said. “You get comfortable and it’s kind of easy from there.”

Seth Jones, Lukas Sedlak, Pierre-Luc Dubois, and Alexander Wennberg had strikes for the Jackets as they built a 2-0 first period lead despite a barrage of shots from the Leafs.

“Tonight we answered the right way,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “It wasn’t with our mouths. It wasn’t rah-rah. We played hard. We were harder to play against.”

Jake Gardiner and Mitchell Marner scored for Toronto as they dropped to 1-4-0 in their last five games.

“We were in at 8 o’clock last night. There’s no reason for us not to be ready today,” Toronto head coach Mike Babcocksaid. “We weren’t good enough. I thought we could have been better.”

Columbus improved to 21-13-1 with the win.

Curtis McElhinney made 33 saves in the loss and lamented the two quick goals yielded in the first period.

“Tough way to get out of the gate,” McElhinney said. “There were some good minutes but it’s tough to be down 2-0 on back-to-backs.”
