In Columbus, Monday, the Blue Jackets continued their streak with their eight straight win with a 5-4 win over the Boston Bruins in overtime.
With just over two minutes left in the extra session, Cam Atkinson struck for the game-winner.
The Jackets improved to 40-28-5.
“We stuck with it, and that’s what good teams do,” Atkinson said. “It wasn’t our prettiest, but we found a way to get two huge points.”
Joonas Korpisalo made 34 saves to pick up the win for the Jackets who are in third place tie with the Philadelphia Flyers; the Flyers hold the tie-breaker.
“That game belongs to [Korpisalo],” Blue Jackets head coach John Tortorella said. “It could’ve been 9-4, so he was outstanding. I’m thrilled for him.”
Boone Jenner, Sonny Milano, Thomas Vanek and Artemi Panarin scored for Columbus in regulation as the Jackets rallied form a 3-1 deficit in the middle frame.
“We have played games, outstanding games, and have lost. I thought we [stunk] tonight and we won,” Tortorella said.
Ryan Donato had a goal and three points for the Bruins in his NHL debut.
“I mean, it was fun,” said Donato, a second-round (No. 56) pick by the Bruins in the 2014 NHL Draft. “Obviously it ended tough, but at the end of the day I was excited and I think it all went well personally, but I’d say it’s still bitter because of the loss.”
Brad Marchand, Riley Nash and David Krejci also scored for Boston who dropped to 45-17-9.
