COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Blue Jackets’ Cam Atkinson scored twice in a 5-2 win over the Ottawa Senators Friday.
Atkinson had been in the penalty box just ahead of the tie-breaking goal he scored in the third.
“Timing-wise, it was a bad penalty by me,” Atkinson said. “Knowing that, our [penalty kill] is pretty solid. I had all the faith in the world they’d kill it off.”
Nick Foligno, Tyler Motte and Markus Nutivaara also scored for the Jackets.
“I felt like I was doing a lot of good things tonight to find myself in the right position,” Foligno said.
Tom Pyatt and Mike Hoffman had the two Senators’ goals as they dropped to 8-7-6 with the loss.
“The first 10 minutes of the third period were outstanding,” Ottawa coach Guy Boucher said. “The power play looked great, just couldn’t score. Their goalie played terrific. The [penalty kill] looked good too. We were right there, 2-2.”
Sergei Bobrovsky made 24 saves to pick up the win.
The Sens are 0-4-1 in their last five games.
“It’s tough slide right now, a lot of frustration, but when we get through this, we’ll be a better team,” Pyatt said of the skid.

Craig Anderson took the loss on 27 saves.
“We came in the room 1-1 after one, having been outplayed, and thought, ‘You know what? This is maybe a steppingstone where we need to go as a team.’ We chased it a little too early there at the end, but I think there’s a lot to build on. When you’re in this, you’ve got to see the light at the end of the tunnel. I think you can see it a little bit,” Ottawa’s Bobby Ryan said after the game.
