INDIANAPOLIS – Ludwig Blomstrand supplied two goals, but the forward’s contribution couldn’t overcome a third period outburst by the Indy Fuel, as the Kalamazoo Wings dropped a 5-2 decision Wednesday night.
Scoring on their second shot of the game, Blomstrand (17th) gave the K-Wings an early lead with a rebound marker 2:28 into the contest.
Generating two shots in the first 2:28 into the period, Kalamazoo has held to just one shot in the remaining 17:32. While the K-Wings had problems getting shots, Indy had not such worries posting 18 shots in the period.
Registering two goals in a span of 1:22, the Fuel took the lead midway in the period. Scoring on a rebound, Vincent Arseneau tied the game at 1-1 12:18 into the stanza. Just over a minute later Indy went ahead 2-1, when Chris DeSousa earned his first pro goal with a wrister from the slot.
Blomstrand (18th) evened the game at 2-2 late in the second period scoring the equalizer shorthanded.
Setting the tone in the third period, Rhett Bly (10th) finished off an odd-man rush to put the Fuel back in front with a goal 57 seconds into the period.
Building off the momentum a few minutes later, Mike Duco (13th) punched in an insurance marker to push the Fuel lead to 4-2.
Indy’s leading scorer, Garett Bembridge, eliminated any chance of a K-Wings comeback with four minutes remaining by netting his19th goal of the season.
