Blaze take excellent road win in Glasgow

Coventry Blaze picked up their fifth point in six games with a 4-1 road win in Glasgow over Clan, who have now lost three in a row.

The Blaze arrived in Glasgow sitting eighth after a dramatic four-goal comeback win and an overtime loss against league leaders Nottingham, results that nudged them clear of the playoff trapdoor.

“We felt confident coming into this game, we’ve been playing some good hockey,” said Blaze goaltender Mat Robson. “We’ve been trending in the right direction and I think tonight we got rewarded.”

Coventry made the brighter start, striking twice in the opening period through Elijah Barriga and Jordan Power to take a 2-0 lead. Back-to-back Blaze penalties late in the frame handed Clan a lifeline, and Deven Sideroff converted on the powerplay to reduce the deficit to 2-1 by the first intermission.

“I felt good, it’s always tough after these long bus rides to get the legs going,” added Robson. “But the body is feeling good, and I think we’ve got it down to a science now with how we warm up and work with the physios. I was able to do my bit and keep pucks out of the net, and up top we’ve got guys that can put it in there.”

The second period passed without further scoring, with both sides trading half-chances but struggling to generate clear looks. Glasgow’s best spell was slowed by a late interference penalty on Darien Kielb, and Coventry carried their one-goal lead into the second break.

Grayson Constable’s powerplay goal 6:04 into the third restored the Blaze’s two-goal cushion and halted any momentum the Clan had carried forward. Ivan Chukarov sealed the result with an empty-net goal in the final seconds to cap an impressive road win for Coventry.
