Jakub Sindel fired a third-period winner as Genting Casino Coventry Blaze claimed an fantastic 5-4 victory at Cardiff Devils in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League.
Goals from Andrew Hotham (3.50) and Joey Haddad (15.28) put Devils 2-0 up before Sindel pulled a goal back on the powerplay at 18.41.
Brent Walton (20.23 powerplay) made it 3-1 but quickfire strikes from Cale Tanaka (22.21) and Craig Cescon (22.56 powerplay) hauled Blaze level.
Carl Hudson (24.49 powerplay) and Blaze’s Ryan O’Marra (39.15) traded goals before man-of-the-match Sindel’s second at 46.14 won it for Blaze.
It was the first time since September that Blaze have secured back-to-back victories as they brought Devils’ nine-match winning streak to an end.
Coach Chuck Weber said: “It was not pretty but we found a way to win. It was the poorest we have played since I arrived.
“I gave it to them at the end of the first period because it was not good enough, we were sloppy and missing passes.
“But we showed a lot of spirit and perseverance and we stuck together.
“O’Marra’s powerplay goal was huge and it would have been a different game going into the third down by one but we scored timely goals all night.
“We were short-handed 12 times, I wanted to limit them to four in the whole game but they had four in the first period. But we had some huge kills, including two or three five-on-threes.
“From my standpoint there is still a lot of work to do. We have played better and lost. You cannot get too high when you win and you cannot get too low when you lose.”
