Genting Casino Coventry Blaze can confirm the signing of Canadian forward Carl Lauzon for the 2015/16 Rapid Solicitors Elite League campaign. The 28-year-old native of Montreal, Quebec, was a free agent following the demise of Hull Stingrays, where he was assistant-player coach last season.
Lauzon led Stingrays in scoring with 70 points (32 goals and 38 assists) in 63 games – finishing eighth overall in the Elite League – and helped the team advance to the play-off
semi-final. It was his second season with Stingrays having enjoyed five years in France and coach Chuck Weber is thrilled with his latest summer capture. He said: “We are excited to add Carl to our forward mix. He is another player that can play all three forward positions and was a leading scorer on his team last season.
“He really stepped up at the end of the season for a short-handed Hull team and willed them to within a goal of the final. He said he wants to take his game to another level at both ends of the ice and the fact he is dangerous offensively in all aspects, even strength, PP and with his short-handed goals, it will keep opposition on their toes.”
Lauzon said: “IÂ was naturally sad to see the Stingrays drop out of the league but it did give me the opportunity to re-evaluate the next step for my career.
“I’m really excited this next challenge is with the Blaze. The organisation has a first-class reputation amongst players and with coach Weber returning I desperately wanted to be part of what they are building there. “My goal is to help the club challenge for trophies and to continue the great progress they made in the second half of last season. I really wanted to join the club and the club really wanted me so it was a very easy decision for me to sign for the team. I can’t wait for the season to start and I’m really looking forward to playing in front of the Blaze fans in August.”
