Blaze into seventh with road win

Glasgow Clan hosted Coventry Blaze at Braehead Arena on Friday night in a seventh-versus-eighth showdown, just 20 days after the Blaze recorded a 4-1 road win in the same building. Coventry arrived level on points with Clan after taking results in five of their last six games, while Glasgow were still searching for just their second win of 2026.Image

Each team had already recorded a 4-1 home win in the series this season.

“We had a good game plan and everyone is feeling confident,” said Blaze goaltender Mat Robson, whose side came into the night with five wins from their last six. “That always helps, and if we keep doing the same things and playing responsible hockey, we’ll be alright.”

Coventry struck first just eight seconds in when William Boysen finished a feed from Elijah Barriga after a broken stick caused problems on the Clan blue line.

Glasgow responded early in the second period, turning the game around with two quick goals. Alex Forbes batted a puck out of the air to tie the game, before Brett Neumann scored on the rush to give Clan a 2-1 lead.

However, back-to-back penalties to Daniel Tedesco proved costly. Coventry’s power play capitalised twice through Jere Vertanen’s point shot and a Grant Mismash redirection, before Grayson Constable added another at even strength to give the Blaze a 4-2 lead at the second intermission.

“We preach consistency and not being complacent,” added Robson. “We try to force our game on teams and not let other teams dictate what we do.”

Kim Tallberg sealed the result at 52:03 to complete the comeback and secure a 5-2 win for Coventry, lifting them above Clan in the standings.

“It feels good,” Robson said after a 37-save performance. “As a goalie, you have to stay confident regardless of what’s happening. We’ll enjoy the bus ride home, take the day off, and then get back to work on Sunday.”
