Blaze ground Flyers, 7-2

The Genting Casino Coventry Blaze extended their winning streak to five games, collecting their 16th point from nine outings in 2026 with a commanding 7-2 victory over the Fife Flyers at the Skydome Arena on Sunday.

The game was a dedicated Pride Night, celebrating inclusivity and belonging and reinforcing the message that hockey is for everyone.

Fife struck first on the opening powerplay of the night. Mike Pelech was called for hooking inside the first two minutes, and David Booth made Coventry pay 35 seconds later, firing high past Mat Robson to give the Flyers the early lead at 12.34.

The Blaze responded midway through the period through David Clements, whose blue-line effort beat Shane Owen at 12.34 to bring the game level – the first of three points on the night for the Brit.

Coventry then took the lead at 16.29 as Jordan Power drove into the offensive zone and beat Owen from a tight angle.

Fife pulled back with 2.41 remaining in the period, Keaton Jameson finishing from close range following a feed from Logan Neilson. However, Coventry ensured they headed into the first intermission in front, as William Boysen converted on the power play with just 14 seconds left to make it 3-2.

Coventry took full control in the second period. Jere Vertanen unleashed his trademark one-timer during four-on-four play early in the frame to extend the lead to 4-2, marking his impressive 12th goal of the season from the blue line. Matthew Gleason then added a fifth at 28.45, jamming home a loose puck in front, before turning provider just over two minutes later as William Boysen tipped in his pass for his second of the night and Coventry’s sixth.

Tensions flared late in the period in front of Robson’s crease, resulting in penalties for both sides, but the Blaze struck again before the break. With 1.17 remaining, Grant Mismash – Coventry’s leading point-scorer – deflected home a feed from Adam Robbins, who picked up his second assist of the night, to make it 7-2.

There was no further scoring in the third period, with Fife back-up goalie Andrew Little given a full 20 minutes in goal after being called up for the weekend trip, as the Blaze comfortably closed out another dominant home performance.
