Blaze earn point in Edinburgh

Genting Casino Coventry Blaze secured a three-point weekend in the Rapid Solicitors Elite League after a 2-1 overtime defeat at Edinburgh Capitals.

Blaze, who beat Dundee Stars 2-1 on Saturday night, again had Derek Lee and Jereme Tendler as healthy scratches. Edinburgh Capitals logo

They got the go-ahead goal at 7.25 through Ryan O’Marra – his 11th goal of the season – but Rene Jarolin levelled on the powerplay five minutes into the final period.

The game moved into overtime and Jarolin earned Capitals the extra point 3.04 into the additional five minutes.

Coach Chuck Weber said: “It was disappointing because we controlled most of the play and we out-shot them 15-2 in the second period but we are struggling to score goals.

“We created our fair share of chances but we lacked a finish and it seems we need a lot more chances than the opposition to score.

“They are a team they don’t need many chances and we did not give them many – we limited them to just 20 shots – but they capitalised on their few.

“We didn’t get the four points we wanted this weekend and it was disappointing we gave Edinburgh two.

“We have only given up three goals this weekend and if we keep the opposition to 20 shots we will give ourselves a good chance.”
