Blais agrees to one-year contract with Rangers

Sammy Blais agreed to a one-year contract with the New York Rangers on Friday. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Blais, who turned 26 on Friday, could have become a restricted free agent on July 13.

He had four assists in 14 games before sustaining a torn ACL on November 14 and missing the remainder of the season. Blais was close to returning but did not play in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Rangers were eliminated in the Eastern Conference Final by the Tampa Bay Lightning in six games.

Blais was acquired in a trade with the St. Louis Blues and a second-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft on July 23, 2021 for forward Pavel Buchnevich.

Selected by St. Louis in the sixth round of the 2014 NHL Draft (176), Blais has 39 points (17 goals, 22 assists) in 133 regular-season games and eight points (three goals, five assists) in 27 playoff games.

Blais won the Stanley Cup with the Blues in 2019.
