QUEBEC CITY, P.Q. — Staying the game plan for the entire game, Blainville-Boisbriand opened its weekend winning by shutout against Quebec, 4-0. Making 22 saves Samuel Montembeault was prefect in the Armada cage registering his third shutout. Armada center Miguel Picard ends with a goal and assist.
Quebec got the best over the Blainville-Boisbriand in first five minutes of the game thanks to the penalty taken by Armada right winger Shawn Miller, found guilty of goalie interference by referee Dominic Bedard. Armada goaltender Samuel Montembeault closed the door making first five saves in the game.
Unable to get a real chance for a shot on the Quebec netminder Evgeny Kiselev, the team coached by Joel Bouchard was able to shoot on Quebec goalie as they slowly came back to their game plan with the help of their first power play in the game as Quebec left winger Matthew Boucher went in the box for slashing.
Alexandre Katerinakis, Guillaume Beaudoin, Jan Dufek, Joel Tisdale (2) took shots on goal bringing back the Armada in shots on goal 6-6.
Already 0-for-1 with a man-advantage in first period, Quebec got a second chance with a man up but like on their first attempt they came out empty handed.
Blainville-Boisbriand broke the ice with 24.6 seconds remaining in first period at even strength. With lots of players near Quebec goalie’s crease following first shot taken by Armada right winger Morgan Adam-Moisan, Tyler Holand pick up the loose puck in the crease and pushed it behind Quebec netminder Evgeny Kiselev for the only goal in the opening period.
Bronson Beaton, Derek Gentile with two great scoring opportunities each and defenseman Aaron Dutra were the most dangerous players on Quebec side.
Trailing by one Quebec got a third chance with a man up. Giving special instruction to his players, in hope of his team taking the opportunity to tie the game at one all it was Blainville-Boisbriand getting the best scoring chance, on a two-on-one breakaway, as Joel Tisedale took the shot with Yvan Mongo was well covered.
Blanked on their first three power plays in the game, Quebec got another chance to try to get on board but again Joel Bouchard’s team as coach successfully killed Quebec fourth attempts.
Like the first period, Blainville-Boisbriand took advantage of another great scoring opportunity at the end of second period, as they got the chance to go on three-on-one breakaway that transformed in a three-on-two. At the end, T.J. Melancon left no chance to Quebec netminder, as his one-timer beat Kiselev with 1:22 remaining in the middle frame. Yan Dufek has been real patient with the puck before making his pass. Pascal Corbeil was the third man on the play.
Trying to make things happen for Quebec, Yanick Turcotte and Morgan Adam-Moisan were penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Coming back from injury Michael Robidoux was also been sent in penalty box for roughing, giving home team 1:20 seconds of power play to open the third period.
Already leading by two and 0-in-3 with man up Blainville-Boisbriand got another as Quebec defenseman Raphael Maheux has been found guilty of hooking.
With lots of traffic in front of him Quebec goalie didn’t have any chance as the shot by Pascal Corbeil beating Kiselev high over his right shoulder for Armada third goal at 14:36.
Blainville-Boisbriand last goal in the game also came as the team played on their fourth power plays. A perfect pass from Anthony Boucher to Anthony Poulin who only had to redirected it over Kiselev left shoulder 19:50.
Quebec will be back in action on Saturday afternoon in Shawinigan facing the Cataractes.
Five other games were on QMJHL schedule on Friday night.
