BRAMPTON, ON – Luc Blain scored twice and Erik Bradford sniped his first as a Beast as Brampton defeated Indy in overtime by a score of 6-5.
Brampton welcomed the Indy Fuel to the Powerade Centre for a Sunday afternoon clash. The Beast and Fuel had not met at all this season, with Brampton owning the lifetime record between the two clubs.
The Fuel got on the board first off a goal from Johnny McInnis. The forward was able to snap home a big rebound that was kicked out into the slot by Beast netminder Marcus Hogberg.
That goal gave the Fuel a 1-0 lead at 14:07. Brampton wouldn’t be down for long, as Blain pulled a slick power move and was able to bury the puck behind Fuel starter Matt Tomkins at 15:14. Willie Corrin and Chris Leveille picked up the assists on Blain’s seventh goal of the year. The Beast and Fuel would head into the first intermission tied 1-1 and with Brampton leading in shots by a count of 14-9.
Brampton started the second period with a fantastic pad save by Hogberg. The play went the other way and it was Brandon Marino potting his 19th of the year to give the Beast a 2-1 lead at 1:43.
Indy would tie the game up eight minutes later off a power move in front from Darian Dziurzynski that tied the game up 2-2 at 9:41.
Brampton was not content with a tie game and looked to Jackson Leef to make a move. The speedy forward pulled the puck around the net before releasing a shot from the left dot that eluded Tomkins.
Brampton had a 3-2 lead at 15:39 of the second. At 18:20, the Beast added another one as Scott Jacklin came screaming into the offensive zone and roofed a laser beam into the top corner at 18:20.
Brampton retired to their dressing room ahead on the scoreboard 4-2 and up in shots by a count of 34-23.
The third period was absolutely wild. Indy scored at 3:09 and 3:35 to tie the game up at four apiece. Then Robin Press scored his tenth of the year on a penalty shot to give the Fuel a 5-4 lead at 12:10.
Brampton was not deterred, and with the goalie pulled for the extra attacker, was able to tie the game. Blain redirected a point shot and was able to swipe it home to tie the game 5-5 at 19:32. It was the big pivots second goal of the contest.
Overtime was solved by Bradford at exactly 1:00. The Orangeville native came in on a two-on-one and rifled a picture perfect shot into the top corner to give Brampton the 6-5 overtime win.
Hogberg claims his eighth win of the season and finished the game with 32 saves.
