Mackenzie Blackwood signed a two-year, $4.7 million contract with the San Jose Sharks on Saturday. It has an average annual value of $2.35 million.
The 26-year-old goalie was acquired in a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday for a sixth-round pick in the 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft. Blackwood was an unrestricted free agent after he did not receive a qualifying offer from the Sharks prior to the deadline on Friday.
“Mackenzie is a big (6-foot-4, 225 pounds), athletic goaltender with a lot of potential and upside,” Sharks general manager Mike Grier said. “He will be a good addition to our goaltender group.”
