In Newark, Mackenzie Blackwood made 37 saves and recorded his second straight shutout, this time, 3-0 over the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
“Obviously, you get a little bit lucky at times, but I think it was another great team
game,” Blackwood said. “We were keeping stuff to the outside and guys were blocking shots (New Jersey had 18 blocks). Everyone in this room plays for each other. It’s awesome to see everyone care. That makes me want to battle for them even more.”
All the scoring was in the middle frame when Kyle Palmieri, Blake Coleman and Nikita Gusev struck for goals.
“It’s been defense and strong goaltending and, obviously, everyone’s bought in,” Coleman said. “Everyone’s having fun and special teams has been going here a little bit. It’s a good feeling right now.”

Calvin Petersen made 31 saves in the loss.
“A little too much vanilla from a lot of guys, and obviously the lack of offense comes back to bite us,” Kings coach Todd McLellan said. “We are desperately searching for some help offensively. There have been a lot of players who have played a lot of games for us, and they haven’t hit the score sheet or even the chance sheet.”
