In Dallas, the Chicago Blackhawks picked up their second straight win over the Stars on Tuesday, 2-1, in overtime.
Pius Suter potted the game winner with 2″15 gone in the extra session.
“I actually didn’t know it was in until I heard [Blackhawks forward Brandon Hagel] screaming,” Suter said. “I didn’t know it was in. I just heard the post, so yeah, it was a relief.”
Kevin Lankinen made 34 saves for the win.
“That was a big win, two big wins for this team,” Lankinen said. “I think we did a really good job hanging in there today, and obviously it feels great.”
Roope Hintz put the Stars ahead 1-0 early in the first period.
“We played well enough to win that game. We certainly created enough offense to win that game,” Stars head coach Rick Bowness said. “Give their goalie credit. We have three breakaways, you hope you hit one, but he made some big saves. We missed a couple of open nets and that’s the difference right there.”
Mattias Janmark scored for Chicago in regulation.
“The overturned goal was a key moment in the game, but I thought we got better as the game went on,” Blackhawks head coach Jeremy Colliton said. “Big power-play goal there in the second. … We had an excellent third [period] and that’s the proper response when you find a way to stay in the game for two periods that I thought were really good.”
Jake Oettinger made 27 saves in the loss.
“I thought in the third we make things difficult on us in the first five minutes or so just by turnovers and giving them momentum, but I thought we got it back as the period went on,” the Stars’ Andrew Cogliano said. “We’re just not doing enough to win games right now, and it’s not good enough in a shortened season like this. You have to find a way to win games.”
