The Chicago Blackhawks got a much needed win Saturday night when they defeated the Hurricanes in Carolina, 4-3, in extra time.
Brandon Saad capped a three-goal rally by the Hawks who trailed by two in the third frame.
“I think the biggest thing is getting the win, helping contribute,” Saad said. “Goals are going to come. You just keep getting chances. But that one definitely felt good.”
Alex DeBrincat scored his second of the game in the final frame and Gustav Forsling also scored in the third to force the overtime session.
“I think it’s good timing for me,” DeBrincat said. “We definitely needed that win. I thought it was a pretty good game for us too. Confidence is a lot in this game. If we have it, we’ll be moving.”
Anton Forsberg made 35 stops for his first NHL win.
Brock McGinn struck for two goals and Jeff Skinner scored for the Canes.
“The power play has been struggling as of late, but we’ve got to find a way to turn that around. It’s costing us in some situations where we need a bit of a jump, and we’re not getting it,” Skinner said after the loss.

Scott Darling made 26 saves in the loss to his old tam.
“It’s different. I thought [Darling] played pretty well, especially early on in that first period when we had some chances around the net. He’s a big goalie, so he gets his body in front of a lot of pucks. It’s weird facing (Trevor) van Riemsdyk and Kruger as well. I wish them all the best, but it was nice to beat them tonight though,” Chicago’s Patrick Kane said after defeating his old teammate in goal.
