On Saturday night, the Chicago Blackhawks’ season took yet another another page from the record book and tore it up.
In St Louis, the Blues handed the Hawks their ninth straight loss to open the season.
In it is a new level of futility for the franchise in a season that has gone from bad hockey to dark times off the ice.
“We played better than previous games. Still frustrating,” the Blackhawks’ Alex DeBrincat said. “We don’t get enough goals. We’re here to win. If we play well and don’t win, it doesn’t mean anything. We’ve got to keep going on, get our first one under our belts and then move on from there.”
Jordan Binnington made 25 saves for the Blues win.
St Louis improved to 6-1-0 with the win.
The Blues’ Torey Krug scored the game’s only goal.
“Obviously it was important for us to get this win tonight,” Krug said. “‘Binner’ played a heck of a game and guys showed up and played pretty well defensively. We had to reward them on the power play and it was good.”
Chicago wasted a rare, perfectly good start by Marc-Andre Fleury who made 36 saves in the Blackhawks loss.
“All I want is a win,” Fleury said. “It doesn’t matter how we get it. It was nice not to give up four or five or six goals. The guys helped me out tonight. As a team, we defended better. It showed on the scoreboard.”
