Blackhawks gain on Predators

In Columbus, the Chicago Blackhawks fell behind early in their game with the Blue Jackets.

Michael Del Zotto  and Cam Atkinson scored for the Blue Jackets before the four-minute mark of the opening frame.

“I think we got away from our game a little bit,” Atkinson said. “I don’t know if we thought it would be an easy night.”

Problem for Columbus was, those were the last strikes until the game was out of hand in the third period.

“I don’t think we played hard enough through the middle part of that game,” Columbus head coach John Tortorella said. “Found our way in the third period.”

The Blackhawks posted four straight goals for a 4-3 win and add two points in their chase of the Nashville Predators, who lost to the Tampa Bay Lightning, 3-0.

Kevin Lankinen made 23 saves in the win.

Wyatt Kalynuk picked up his first NHL goal in the Chicago win.

“It’s something you dream of,” Kalynuk said. “I know my mom and dad and grandma Betty are smiling back home, so it feels good, for sure.”

Alex DeBrincat started the Hawks rally with a goal in the first period.

“Obviously, we need these points. We should’ve been ready from the start,” DeBrincat said. “It’s good to battle back, can’t always be leading all through the game, but we had that resilience and effort to get back into the game.”

Carl Soderberg  tied it at 2-2, in the first period, and Kalynuk, put the Hawks up, 3-2.

Dylan Strome added insurance early in the middle frame.

Patrick Laine scored in the third period to make the scoreboard look more presentable.

Elvis Merzlikins made 24 saves in the loss.
