However, the London side hit back to level the game, before eventually losing by two.

Meanwhile, in Basingstoke the Bison started slowly leading 2-0 against Invicta after one period, but a superb second session saw them out up 10-1 victors and so lead the Phantoms on goal differance.

This meant, the Herd travelled to Cardiff knowing just a win would see them crowmed league champions.

Standing in their way was Basingstoke-born goalie Jordan Lawday, who for the first 20 minutes kept them at bay as conceded just one goal from 24 shots, as the game was level at the first break 1-1.

However, once again the middle session saw the Bison win the game as they ran out comfortable winners 8-1 as Lawday faced 82 shots.

“I think we found a secomd wind in the second period in Cardiff and it was great to win the league championship. I think is very rewarding to do this in our first year in South One and shows a lot about this group of players,” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.

The Bison will be looking to add another trophy to their collection on Friday night, when they travel to the Swindon Wildcats for the second leg of th Autumn Cup final.

The Herd trail by two goals after a 3-1 first leg reverse in Basingstoke.

Then on Saturday, the Bison open their play-off campaign against Invicta, who are sure to do a lot better in Hampshire this time around in the first leg. The return is in Kent on Sunday.
