Bison stumble in three-game stretch

BASINGSTOKE UK: The Bison have added three players to their roster, as well as releasing one, as head coach Doug Sheppard looks to get his side back into the EPL title shake-up.

After a triple weekend of action which yielded just three points, Sheppard then made 200px-LogoBasingstokeBisonthree new additions to his squad.

Two of them import forward Joe Rand and British forward Joe Miller and are no strangers to the Hampshire outfit, while British defenseman Dan Scott is new.

With the signing of Rand, Sheppard released import D man Jan Jarabek, so the Herd sill only have five imports, the maximum they can use in a game.

Rand stood down from the Bison last year due to work commitments and is suited up for Basingstoke until Christmas at least.

The Hamilton, Ontario born player is back for a fifth season and has a 178 league games to his name for the Bison and in this time he returned 151 points.

He was a member of both their double winning and league winning championship side.

He is a great energy player who does not getting his nose dirty to score goals and will certainly help a Herd offence, which has failed to fire on all cylinders this season.

Cardiff-born Miller is a three time league winner and is back for a second spell in Hampshire having signed from the Telford Tigers.

When last in Basingstoke he was one of the top goal scorers on the team, topping the charts in his first campaign with 30 goals and in total scored 81 goals from 134 games.

Defenceman Scott also joins from Telford after three and a half years in Telford. The Kent-born blueliner is a former Great Britain junior international captain and a very solid player.

He arrival means the Bison will continue with an all British D core in front of the Slovak shot stopper Tomas Hiadlovsky. It is the first time since season 2012/13 that the Herd have not had an import defenseman on their books, when Jaroslav Cesky, Doug Sheppard, Greg Chambers and Rand were the four forwards.

The new trio are all set to play in Saturday’s home derby game with the Guildford Flames, hoping to help the Herd break their duck against their Surrey after two losses already this campaign. This is their only game of the weekend.

“I am really exciting about the changes I have made. We have the best defensive record in the league and Dan is a great addition back there. Our problem this season is scoring goals and I think the two Joes can only help us in this department,” said Bison head coach Sheppard.
