BASINGSTOKE UK: The Bison will be looking to win the EPL play-off crown for the second time in their history, when they travel to Coventry this weekend.
They will face the reigning league champions the Telford Tigers on Saturday and victory would earn a crack at either the Milton Keynes Lightning take on the Guildford Flames
in Sunday’s final.
“Everyone is geared up for the final weekend of the season and any of these teams can win. I am sure it will be three great game for the fans and players. The play-offs is always a great way to end the season,” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
The Herd wrapped up their qualification for the play-off finals in Coventry, by winning Group B with a 7-3 success at the Swindon Wildcats.
The Herd took the lead at 6:46, as Tomas Karpov scored from close range and Aaron Connolly doubled the advantage, before Swindon’s Max Birbraer pulled a goal back.
The second session saw the Bison added a third goal, as man of the match Ivan Antonov fired home, and three minutes later, it became 4-1 as Derek Roehl scored.
The final period saw Ciaran Long and Joe Miller extend the lead to 6-1.
With five minutes left in the contest, Swindon’s Tomasz Malasinski scored off the post. At this point Hiadlovsky was replaced by Dan Weller-Evans for the final five minutes.
Swindon had also changed their netminders a minute earlier and Lyle’s replacement Michael Crisp, was unable to stop Karpov grabbing his second.
It was left to the home side to wrap up the scoring as Adam Finlinson scored with four seconds left on the clock
The night before, the Herd beat the visiting Milton Keynes Lightning 3-2.
In a tight first 20 minutes, the only goal came from MK’s Blaz Emersic.
The second session saw the Bison win the game as man of the match Miller scored twice and Joe Rand made it 3-1.
The final session saw the Bison have the upper hand, but the only goal was scored on the powerplay by MK’s Antti Holli.
The previous Wednesday night, the Bison won in Hull 4-2.
They never looked back after taking the lead after 74 seconds from Roehl.
The Pirates levelled things by the first break, on the powerplay, thanks to James Chilcott.
Rand put the Herd ahead again in the second session and once again on the powerplay Hull claimed an equaliser through Andrej Themar.
The Bison took the lead for a third time at 47:23 from Connolly and the victory was sealed with an empty net goal from Roehl, a minute from the end.
