BASINGSTOKE UK: The Bison opened their post season with their biggest ever play-off victory, as they beat the Hull Pirates 7-0 on home ice.
An even first session saw the home side lead by just an Aaron Connolly powerplay
strike.
The game was cracked open in the second session, as the Bison added four more without reply man of the match Connolly netting the second, followed by defenseman Dan Scott, a shorthanded Joe Miller marker and Ciaran Long.
The final period saw the Herd add two more as Scott grabbed a second and Connolly completed his hat-trick.
A fair reflection on the game was the shots on goal which finished 50-14.
Tomas Hiadlovsky skated off with the Bison’s first home shut-out in the play-offs since 1999 and his seventh in total for the club so is now tied with Curtis Cruickshank with the most shut-outs for the club.
“I think we played really well tonight and it was just the start we were looking for in the play-offs. There is still a long way to go, but we have now won seven on the bounce so confidence is high is the camp,” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
Next up for the Herd is a trip to Milton Keynes who won their opening group game 5-1 over Swindon.
Then on Sunday night, back in Basingstoke, the Bison take on Swindon.
It will prove an interesting weekend as the Herd have not won in MK all season and Swindon have yet to win on the road in Basingstoke, but being play-off hockey anything could happen.
