BASINGSTOKE, UK – The Bison have moved quickly to replace Canadian import forward Joe Rand with Slovak sniper Rene Jarolin.
Rand has decided to step back from playing due to a promotion at work which means he now travels the world.
The Canadian a member of the Bison’s double winner team which included scoring a penalty shot against Manchester during the play-off final of 2014.
It was then fitting the Canadian signed off with a penalty shot in the shoot-out win over the Milton Keynes Lightning, which moved the Bison back to the summit of the EPL.
His replacement has big skates to fill, but has a very good pedigree having scored a point a game for MK earlier in the campaign.
The 34-year Slovak had arrived in Bucks from Scottish Elite League outfit the Edinburgh Capitals where in his debut season in 2011/12 he topped the league scoring netting 43 goals in 75 points.
In three seasons in Scotland, Jarolin recorded over 200 points scoring over 100 times. He has also put up some good numbers in the Slovakian top tier five times recording 40 points seasons.
His arrival in Basingstoke sees him link up with former Edinburgh team mate Tomas Hiadlovsky and he is one of three Slovak imports on the Bison roster along with Miroslav Vantroba.
“Joe will still be a part of this team as injury cover and we fully understand his is a great opportunity for him and everyone at the club wishes him well.
“We are pleased to sign Rene and I am sure he will add even more firepower to our line-up,” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
Jarolin makes his debut against Hull on Saturday, which is the Bison’s only game of the weekend.
Last Saturday, the Bison beat Milton Keynes 3-2 after a penalty shoot-out.
The game saw former Herd netminder Dean Skinns hooked after two goals in the game which seemed very harsh on the shot stopper as he had made nearly 20 saves.
Joe Greener and Tomas Karpov scored for the Bison in the game.
