BASINGSTOKE UK: The current Bison will be hoping to rewrite the club’s record books and become the first Basingstoke team to win a treble this weekend in Coventry.
The Herd picked up the league championships trophy in March and then last Sunday
added the South One play-off crown to this.
As expected it turned out to be a hard fought contest with the Peterborough Phantoms as the first game in Cambridgeshire was tied 1-1 and then the Herd won on home ice 2-1, thanks to a brace from Roman Nalinik.
This now sets up a Coventry clash with the Sheffield Steeldogs on Saturday and hopefully then a final against the other semi which is between Telford and Peterborough.
The Bison have a couple of injury worries ahead of their final weekend in Joe Baird and Grant Rounding.
Experienced defencerman Baird missed last weekend, while forward Rounding picked up an injury in the home leg of last week’s play-off final.
“Having the chance to win three trophies is just great, but we know it going to be tough weekend. We have not seen Sheffield for a while and they won the north league, so we know we will have to be at our best to win that game. Coventry is always a great finale and we have guys who have won there before, so lets hope we can do it again,” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
