BASINGSTOKE UK: The Bison have added even more depth to their offensive department with the re-signing of Grant Rounding and Daniel Lackey.
Both players live in the town and started their careers in the Herd’s junior programme.
Rounding, a dual national having been born in Johannesburg, moved to Bracknell early in his hockey life playing for the under-16 side – the Stingers, the under-18 team – the Drones and also their National League outfit the Hornets.
He made his Bees debut in the EPL in season 2010/2011 and enjoyed a career high season in Bracknell three years later scoring 11 times in a 19 points haul.
He then joined the Herd and has suffered two injury hit campaigns and will be hoping for once to stay healthy for a season.
The 25-year-old is a speedy winger who makes things happen because he closes players down so fast.
Having sat out most of last season’s championship winning campaign he returned just before the play-offs and scored his only goal of the campaign in the end of season series.
Lackey is a Basingstoke player through and through having been born in the Hampshire town as well.
He played for the under-16 and under-18 Bison, before moving up to the play for the Basingstoke Buffalo.
He spent most of his career as a very offensive defenceman, but in recent years has played as a forward and trained all last season with the Herd.
An injury crisis saw him given to the chance to ice for the Bison, an opportunity he took with both hands.
He may have ended the year with just three assists from 16 games, but he was certainly worth more to the team, stepping into the line-up at an important time in their title winning campaign.
The 26-year-old is a more aggressive forward who also has a very good shot.
“I think both players bring something different to the table and it gives us added depth in the forward department, ” said Bison head coach Doug Sheppard.
The Herd still have one import to sign, plus a back-up goalie and another British defensemen, but with two months to the start of the season there is plenty of time to secure the final pieces in the jigsaw.
